The area is fucking fucked. A home in my father's subdivision is COMPLETELY SUBMERGED. Like, to the roof. My parents are staying at a nursing home after being evacuated by boat. And I just went to NYT.com and saw JACK SHIT about it on the front page.
Tennessee needs donations to Red Cross, and without national coverage those badly needed dollars are only going to trickle in.
A bomb was found in NYC yesterday, and it didn't even bruise anyone. Top story everywhere all day. What the hell? Just because Tennessee isn't some coastal, metropolitan area doesn't mean it isn't completely devastated right now.
I am sickened by the lack of attention to the deathly floods in Tennessee and Mississsippi. It's not like there aren't great images to be shown, TV news! HOMES. FLOATING. DOWN. FREEWAYS. This is your goddamn bread and butter, TV news. WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?
I know! - what the hell??

It's been a harsh reminder of how far off the grid of the national media Nashville really is. People outside of the city have really no idea how bad it is here. There are entire neighborhoods all over the city that are underwater, and shots from above in helicopters look like scenes from Katrina.
One thing for sure though, we Nashvillians know how to rise up to the challenge and we'll be back on our feet soon.
Thanks for your post..

i know right?! i just got off the phone with my great uncle and his good friend--87 years old--died along with his wife-trying to drive in belleview. he's upset about trying to get to the funeral, and that he might not be able to make it there.

The emotions rose to the top with you and rightly so. I am so sorry to hear your family was directly effected. Those of us who love Nashville know they will rise out of the mud, but it would be great to have someone else know something about it. The news media is only concerned with themselves and forget everyone else.

Well said!
Nashville Public Radio is off the air due to a power outage at their transmitter and the fact that the levee near their studios is leaking and no one is allowed into that area. Yet somehow their reporters are still feeding stories to National Public Radio and have been all weekend.

I stayed glued to the weather channel yesterday and got more information from them than I did anywhere else including here in Chattanooga. All our news had was how our creeks might reach flood stage by Tuesday. Hell we didn't get any where near the rain Nashville did. Sorry your family was effected and hope they are ok. As far as I know, all of our family is ok, minor flooding in the basement at Melissa's place.
