Congrats, I've been bit by the running bug too. I ran my first three 5k races in Dec and won 2 age group prizes. It's a great hobby.

What do you think of the folks out there? I was impressed with the relative intelligence of most of the people I met there (as compared to say... Smyrnans) but I sometime detected a note of condescension and maybe a little coldness.

There is such a diverse mix of people and I have been here such a short amount of time, I'd be stupid to try to generalize now. Overall, people are very bright and really nice and laid back and friendly. Strangers are just that though. People don't go out of their way to be courteous to strangers.

congrats! my wife ran her first 1/2 marathon 3 years ago in the music city half. she's totally addicted to running now. You can do it!

That's awesome! Good for you! I hope you plan on writing about the good and bad of your experience. :)

I signed up to run a 5k last month. It was a great experience. Signing up, that is. I didn't actually run it, of course.
